Free poker tournaments are every day competitions that occur on most of the best web poker websites. Freerolls are greatly admired by the poker playing community as they provide the poker competitors the hopes to aquire some real $$$$$ without squandering any. The buyin to these freerolls is – like the name suggests – cost-free and prize cash can range from a handful of dollars for finishing near the top to a few hundred dollars for winning the huge freeroll Texas Holdem poker tournaments.
So why do the poker websites have free tournaments? Is it because of their incredibly benevolent character and the fact that they acquire vast amounts of $$$$$ so they have a societal accountability to provide some of it back?

No of course it is not, the reason that the big poker sites offer free tournaments is to lure folks to their site.
Here is the theory condensed – You come across a poker room that has an exceptional freeroll, it charges you nothing to enroll in and you will be able to acquire one hundred dollars. You think "awesome!" and you head over to the poker site and join as a member so that you can bet on the freeroll. You can compete in and finish quickly and are annoyed due to the fact that you believe you should have performed better, or you get near the end and so you’re wanting some additional action. So what happens? You spend some $$$$$ at the site and compete in a different poker game!
Always check out the free tournaments for payout requirements, you’ll nearly always need to compete in a few hands for real cash before they let you take the winnings out. Often this is on a one to one basis, so if you win 20 dollars at the no cost poker tournament you will need to have bet for twenty dollars in bonafide $$$$$ in order for you to be able to take out the $$$$.
