Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
