Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
