Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
