Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha Hi-Lo begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. Another round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in just about every poker game.
The low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated initially, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi low offers an exciting collection of wagering possibilities and because you have numerous individuals battling for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
