Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
