Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems difficult at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi/lo.
