Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in just about every poker game.
The low hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem difficult initially, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an exciting collection of betting possibilities and because you have several players trying for the high, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
