Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
