Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
