Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same concept in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complex at the outset, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi lo provides an exciting array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several players trying for the high hand, as well as a few shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha Hi-Lo.
