Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
